If you don’t believe in yourself, you will not get to your goal.

I believe a critical component to your weightloss success is belief. Belief in yourself. If you don’t believe in yourself, you will not get to your goal.

If I asked you what your goal was and you said, 'I would love to lose 40kgs but I don’t know if that’s possible'. I'm sorry but you won't get to your goal.

I have been coaching women for nearly 7 years now and if that was said to me, we would be doing a lot of work on your self belief before we got stuck into any exercise and nutrition changes. If you don’t believe you can get to your goal, you will give half assed actioned. Because why put effort into something if you don't think you'll achieve? You’d be wasting your time, right? Subconsciously you will self sabotage your results.

It’s like if I asked you what you wanted to do with your life. If you said, 'I want to start a business but I don’t know if it will be successful and I don’t want to quit my job in case it fails'. You will not start your business. You have already talked yourself into staying because you don’t believe your business will be successful. Why start a business if you think you might fail? Why give something 100% of your energy if you thought it wouldn’t be successful?

Have you just realised that maybe your self belief isn’t where it should be? Let’s take a peek into how it all started. See each time we try at a diet program and “fail” or revert back to our old habits a little voice in our head re affirms our doubt. You start saying to yourself 'I knew that wouldn’t work', 'I knew I couldn’t get to my goal', 'I just can’t lose weight no matter what I do', and you get deeper and deeper in lacking self belief and you spiral down very very quickly. Sometimes you just give up completely and stop trying.

Now that we can see how it’s happened, how do we fix it? Here are my 3 steps to help you start building your self belief up to where it should be.

1. Visualize

To start gaining self belief we have to visually be able to see ourselves at our goal. Create a vision board with your ideal body and put your face on that body. Sounds silly but it works, your mind needs to be able to see you at your goal for it to become a reality.

2. Affirmations

Be careful with how you refer to yourself. “I am” and the words that follow this are so important. I hear people say things like; I am so unmotivated, I am so tired, I am bad at exercising, I am so busy that I don’t have time to look after myself, I am not a morning person. What ever you believe will become a realty. Make a list of positive affirmations and repeat them each morning and each evening. I also did a video on affirmations and have provided everyone with an affirmation my TMMT girls use.

3. Replace negative thoughts about yourself.

If you catch yourself saying something negative about yourself immediately replace it with something positive. Here are some examples below

'I don’t think I can get to my goal'

Change to

'I will get to my goal and I can’t wait to feel amazing in my new body!'

'I can’t stick to this diet it’s so hard'

Change it to

'This is so easy to stick to, I’m going to cook something anyway so it might as well be healthy for me and my family'

Now, the only way to find out if this will work or not is to do it. Some people will read this and do nothing. Nothing will change and they will keep doing what they’re doing. A few will and I have no doubt it will completely change their life.

Which one will you be?
